Can Bad Weather Be Responsible For A Car Accident?

Common factors in fatal car accidents are inclement weather and adverse road conditions. However, if a motorist loses control of his or her vehicle and injures someone else in the midst of said conditions, he or she can still be held responsible for the accident. It is the driver’s obligation to proceed with caution if the roadway is wet and uneven. Proving the negligence of a motorist who lost control amidst inclement weather or adverse road conditions is difficult to do on your own. As such, it is best to work alongside an experienced attorney to guide you through the legal proceedings.

Motorists often lose control of their vehicle during light rain. Quite recently, a 36-year-old man from Oceanside died on Thursday, March 6 in a multi-car collision, according to Fox 5 San Diego. The man was driving east on State Route 76 through the Fallbrook area in a 2000 Kia Sephia around 7 a.m. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the 36-year-old motorist was driving at high speeds when he lost control of his vehicle.

The perpetrator’s Kia swerved out of the eastbound lanes and into opposing traffic where it collided with a 2008 Nissan Altima. The collision spun the Kia perpendicular to westbound traffic. A 42-year-old motorist from Temecula in a 2003 Mercury Sable then broadsided the Kia. “It is not known at this time if alcohol or drugs played a factor in this collision,” said a policeman. “At the time of the crash, the roadway was wet, and there was light rain in the area.”
