Aggressive actions can include verbal comments, honking of the horn or a rude gesture. More serious actions can range from unsafe or aggressive driving maneuvers to drivers getting out of their cars to attempt physical confrontations with other motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. According to AAA, there are over 1200 documented incidents of road rage every year in the United States, with 300 ending in a serious injury or a fatality. Drivers who cannot control their road rage are typically charged with more serious crimes than traffic offenses, such as assault, battery and vehicular homicide if it involves a fatality. A car crashed into a construction work zone on a freeway in Colton on April 11, according to the Los Angeles Times. This car accident occurred less than a week after a roadside worker was killed in a similar accident on the eastbound 10 Freeway. In this more recent accident, a Honda carrying six people ran through the construction zone and struck a stationary tractor trailer. Some of the passenger, ranging in ages from 15 to 20, were ejected from the car. Paramedics rushed them to nearby hospitals. One passenger, 17-years-old, remains in critical condition with a broken neck. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver was intoxicated. Charges are still pending, and according to reports, it appears that everyone in the car was intoxicated and underage. No workers were injured. April 23-27 was National Work Zone Awareness Week.
