National City Wrong-Way Driver’s Fatal DUI Sentencing Postponed

Posted on September 16, 2013 by bonnicilawgroup

Back in February, we first reported on a fatal driving under the influence (DUI) case involving April Carole Thompson, 23. In June, April Thompson pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter for causing a fatal car accident while driving the wrong way on SR-52. Now, according to CBS 8 in San Diego, Thompson’s sentencing, which was supposed to take place September 6, has been postponed until November 1. The 23-year-old faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for not only vehicular manslaughter but also use of a deadly weapon, causing great bodily injury and driving with a blood-alcohol level of .15 percent or higher. “Thompson’s blood-alcohol level was estimated to be .24 or .25 percent – three times the legal limit for driving – at the time of the collision,” said Deputy District Attorney Michael Runyon. The accident occurred around 1 a.m., on December 29, as Thompson was attempting to make…

Woman Killed in Linda Vista Hit-and-Run Accident

Posted on September 9, 2013 by bonnicilawgroup

A 40-year-old woman was the victim of a hit-and-run accident in Linda Vista on August 29 that left her with serious injuries, according to CBS 8 in San Diego. The woman had to be taken to a local trauma center by paramedics for further treatment. Her injuries are serious but not life threatening, according to the police. The accident occurred around 8 p.m. on the 7200 block of Linda Vista Road. The woman was walking along the east sidewalk of the road when she was struck. “She was hit by a light-colored pickup truck that went up on the sidewalk after making a U-turn in the roadway,” said San Diego police Sgt. Leticia Taylor in a statement. After it hit her, the pickup sped away from the scene. Police were still searching for the pickup and its driver at the time of this report. Back in March, CBS 8 reported…

Authorities Increase San Diego DUI Checkpoints for Labor Day

Posted on September 2, 2013 by bonnicilawgroup

KEYT ABC 3 in Santa Barbara is reporting that California police have increased DUI checkpoints for the Labor Day weekend in an effort to keep drunk drivers off the roads. Drunk driving can become an issue around the holidays as families and friends come together to celebrate, celebrations that many times include alcohol. Even in the days and weeks leading up to a holiday, drunk driving sometimes ramps up. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) set up DUI checkpoints in the San Diego and Santa Barbara areas on August 22, over a week before Labor Day, and made multiple arrests. One of the men the CHP arrested tried to flee the scene, and officers had to use a Taser on him. The additional officers needed to staff the extra DUI checkpoints is paid for with traffic grants. One of the most well-known of these grants is “Drive Sober or Get Pulled…

      What our clients are saying

“I had a great experience. I was out from work on disability for almost a year after my accident. The process of battling the insurance companies would have been so overwhelming for me with doctor’s appointments and therapy. Josh streamlined the process and made everything so easy. I don’t think I could have handled this on my own.”
