Police recovered the body of 26-year-old Terrell Blake-Lopez on September 8 from the Colorado River. Blake-Lopez was killed in a boating accident over Labor Day Weekend, according to SignOnSanDiego.com.
Blake-Lopez was thrown off his pleasure boat after hitting a rock in a river just south of Jack Smith Park in Needles. His friend on board the boat attempted to rescue him, but he was not wearing a life jacket and they were not able to. A two-day search ensued to no avail, and then an angler discovered the body floating down the river.
This unnecessary tragedy resulted in the loss of a young life. Investigators are still looking into the accident, but had the young man been wearing a life vest, he may very well have been rescued.
