      If you are thinking about getting into cycling, whether for exercise, fun or as an alternative method of getting to work, there are some things you should know. If you are under 18, wearing a helmet is mandatory in California. Even if you are over 18, you should still wear a helmet. It is one of the most important pieces of safety gear you’ll own. But it’s not enough to just wear one – you must wear it right. The helmet should be snug and level on your head. The chin strap should be snug under your chin and the front of the helmet should not be more than one inch above your eyebrows. All cyclists must use hand signals to communicate their intent to stop, turn or change lanes.       Did Poor Road Maintenance Cause This San Diego Bicycle Accident?

      The San Diego city government has recently paid a high price for poor road maintenance. Back in 2014, a local cyclist was seriously injured after she hit a pothole in a La Jolla bike lane. She soon filed a lawsuit against the city, arguing that the leadership had been negligent in regularly repairing roads. Now, almost two years later, the city council is finalizing its $235,000 legal settlement to the victim. Is Poor Road Maintenance a Problem in San Diego? Part of the lawsuit rested on the argument that the city had done more than just neglect to fix a single pothole. The city had known about road hazards for some time, but still did little to resolve the problems. According to the woman’s lawyer, many residents had already complained about damages on the street.       Is Drunk Driving to Blame of this Hit and Run Bicycle Accident?

      A California woman was arrested for drunk driving after she allegedly hit a cyclist and abandoned him on the street. Only hours before the accident, she had boasted about her new Mercedes on social media. A local bus driver says that he saw the exact model of car commit a hit and run. The police later arrested the woman for drunk driving. They identified that the new car had damages that would be consistent with the bicycle accident. She has been charged with hit-and-run and drunk driving. The cyclist has cuts and possibly also a broken leg.
