According to statistics from Inrix, a traffic research agency, San Diego ranks as the 15th worst traffic city in the United States. The ranking mostly indicates congestion and delays—some of which are the result of car, truck and motorcycle accidents. Another factor is San Diego’s growing commercial economy and a booming tourist industry. “When you have more people going to work, there are more people shopping and overall more people on the road,” Lani Lutar, executive director of the Equinox Center told reporters from ABC 10 News. The two worst times to be driving in San Diego are Fridays at 5 p.m. and Tuesdays at 9 a.m. The most congested roads are state Route 78 from Rancho Santa Fe to Mission road—the 4 mile stretch takes 13 minutes to pass—and Interstate 805 from I-5 to La Jolla.
