Three Killed, Three Injured after SUV Plunges off Freeway

Three people died and three others were injured in a terrifying accident in Los Angeles when an SUV flew off the side of the highway, according to the Los Angeles Times. The SUV reportedly flew off the side of the eastbound 134 Freeway in Eagle Rock and landed on the street below.

The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the 2000’s model Ford Explorer was traveling at high speeds when it drifted off the side of the road. Five passengers were trapped inside the vehicle when it came to rest. A 6-year-old girl flew from the vehicle, landed on the freeway and was rushed to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. One man, one woman and an 11-year-old girl were pronounced dead on the scene. The two other passengers were rushed to the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where the California Highway Patrol reported they were in critical condition.

The names of the victims were withheld so friends and family could be notified. No other vehicles were involved in the accident; it is unclear why the vehicle lost control, but speed may have been a contributing factor.
