Residents in one San Diego neighborhood are growing concerned with the safety of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians following a fatal accident in May at the intersection of Camino Del Norte and 4S Ranch Parkway. Driver Danny Wyrick, 59, and a female passenger clipped the back end of an SUV making a left-turn while Wyrick’s vehicle was allegedly traveling at very high speed and ran through a red light. Wyrick was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was air lifted to a hospital with serious injuries. “This car just appeared as if it was a missile,” said eyewitness Sam Kambo. “Everybody’s always in a rush to go and sometimes people do make mistakes, and this is not the first accident. San Bernardino, California is located near the Riverside metro area, sometimes referred to as the “Inland Empire.” San Bernardino has a population of 209,924 as of the 2010 census. Government and service industry jobs employ most of the area. Major interstates, including I-10 and I-215 run through San Bernardino, making it a transit hub for trucks, buses and passenger vehicles. Late in 2012, a bus carrying a group of tourists from Tijuana to Big Bear mountain and back crashed in San Bernardino on its way back to Mexico. Eight people were killed in the bus accident, and many of the victims’ families filed lawsuits claiming that the transit company, Scapadas Magicas, was aware that the bus had brake issues before the accident occurred—which was caused by a brake malfunction, the investigation revealed.
