Are you taking all precautions to prevent you and your family from a vicious dog attack? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 4.5 million Americans are attacked by a canine annually. One in five of those attacks requires medical attention. Five Injured In California Truck Accident

A truck accident injured five people on Interstate 70 on December 14 in Oroville, according to ChicoER.com. A Honda civic crossed the center line, colliding with a semi truck that was turning left, according to the California Highway Patrol. The truck had just dropped off a road crew a mile away on the highway, according to CHP Officer Al Sanders. All five injured parties were taken to a nearby hospital. “The message to take away from this is to be patient and accidents like this won’t happen,” says Sanders. Traffic was backed up for several hours on Interstate 70. CHP Officer Doug Garret says the Honda was attempting to pass the semi in the oncoming traffic lane. The victims were all wearing seat belts. Are Car Accident Death Statistics Misleading?

For the fifth consecutive year, fatalities from car accidents have decreased nationally, with the exception of 19 states, according to USA Today. California decreased for the fifth consecutive year as well. Some smaller states, however, had opposite statistics. Connecticut experienced a 42% increase in car accident fatalities, while the nation as a whole experienced a 2.9% decline. Experts try to downplay these one year statistical abnormalities and look at the bigger picture. “You don’t want to make a big conclusion based on just one year,” says Jonathan Adkins of the Governors Highway Safety Association. “You need to really look at three to five years to see if there was a trend or if it was a blip.” North Dakota saw a 25% decrease last year, but the numbers are so small in that state that experts don’t take that into much consideration.
