San Diego Wrongful Death Lawyer Reflects on Second Recent Amtrak Accident

A truck driver died in an accident involving an Amtrak Surliner passenger train on December 19, according to UT-San Diego. Emergency responders received calls reporting the accident in Cardiff, that a train had collided with a tow truck on the tracks. According to witnesses the crossing guards were closed around the truck at the time of the collision. The tow truck driver had stopped to assist a stranded motorist that was just west of the tracks, according to police reports. The tow truck was completely demolished upon impact and the driver was thrown from the wreckage. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The train was carrying 125 passengers, some of which sustained minor injuries. Twenty people were injured in another truck accident involving an Amtrak train in Hanford in October. Los Angeles Truck Accident Pile Up Injures 17

A truck accident in Los Angeles injured 17 people in late October, according to the Los Angeles Times. The accident involved a dump truck, a sedan and a Metro bus. According to officials from the Los Angeles Fire Department, the unoccupied dump truck rolled down a hill and collided with the bus that was heading westbound on Hollywood Boulevard on the morning of October 23. The bus was pushed into the other lane facing oncoming traffic, where it collided head-on with the BMW sedan. The female driver of the sedan was trapped in her vehicle for over 20 minutes before responders were able to free her. The woman and her passenger, her daughter, were rushed to a nearby hospital, along with the bus driver and 14 passengers on the bus. The accident remains under investigation. Man Severely Injured After Truck Collision

Four people were injured in a truck accident in San Diego on November 3, according to NBC News. A tanker truck collided with multiple vehicles on Interstate 15 in Escondido. According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, traffic on the interstate began to slow down due to a backed-up off ramp. The truck driver—identified as a 47-year-old Escondido resident—reported seeing the traffic slow but was unable to stop the truck in time. The driver applied the brakes but was not able to avoid collision. The truck rear-ended a Chevrolet Malibu, which became wedged beneath the tanker truck. The truck proceeded to strike two more vehicles before coming to a rest. The sedan caught on fire, and the Escondido Fire Department had to extinguish the flames before pulling the driver out of the car.
