Which Parts of the Bicycle Master Plan Does the City Think Need Work?

There have been several proposals from San Diego bicycling advocates looking to make the city friendlier to cyclists. Many of them have received praise from city representatives, but not all of them. Officials have agreed with 25 of the 32 proposals in the plan, which originated with the Bicycle Advisory Committee. Some will take longer than hoped for, however, and others might need some work. Of the seven proposals that the city did not agree with, only one was labeled a bad idea. That idea was to revisit the 2013 bicycle master plan and update it using information from a 2015 climate action plan. The best protection your child can have while riding is a helmet. But how do you select the right helmet for your child? It’s not enough to just pick the one that has the Batman design your child likes best. Safety is the most important part of picking the right helmet. Young people are especially prone to bicycle injuries. Children ages five and older as well as young adults have the highest rates of bicycle injuries, according to the Centers for Disease Control. They account for almost 60 percent of bicycle injuries requiring U.S. emergency room visits. A helmet can reduce the risk of traumatic brain injury by up to 85 percent. Drunk Motorcyclist Plows Through Group of Cyclists

Getting behind the wheel after you’ve been drinking is a bad idea. Getting behind the handlebars of a motorcycle? Also a bad idea. According to the California Highway Patrol, a man from Clovis lost control of his Harley Davidson while riding in Fresno County. He veered off the pavement and while trying to regain control of his motorcycle, he hit a group of three men riding bicycles. All three men were taken to a nearby medical center with major injuries. The perpetrator suffered minor injuries which were treated at the hospital before he was booked into county jail on felony DUI charges.
