What Are the Causes of Motorcycle Accidents?

Motorcycle accidents have the capability to kill or catastrophically injure their victims, as motorcycle riders have no protection against unfavorable road conditions and unsafe drivers. Riders who are lucky enough to survive a motorcycle accident may face traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries. Accidents are caused by factors such as poor driver visibility, unsafe driving, poor weather and unsafe road conditions. In 2012, 451 motorcyclists were killed and 11,472 injured on California roads. Motorcyclists are always at risk for being hit by unsafe drivers who fail to see them in time, so it is no surprise that intersections are the site of most accidents. Distracted or impaired drivers also represent a threat, taking away any chance that a driver will be paying attention and looking for smaller vehicles on the road. How at Risk Are Football Players for Sustaining a TBI?

Controversy around traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and football has created a national debate over whether football leagues are doing enough to protect their players. Professional, college and high school football players are at high-risk for sustaining a mild-TBI, also known as a concussion. Mild-TBI does not underscore the danger of receiving a concussion, as the long-term effects from concussions are certainly not mild. What Risks Are Associated with Sports-Related TBIs? Athletes who receive too many concussions are at risk for a brain disease called chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Two months ago, an Ohio State University football player was found dead in a…

Pedestrians have no defense against unsafe driving, and unfortunately, accidents such as this one are more common than they should be. In 2010, drug or alcohol related pedestrian accidents led to 2,020 pedestrians losing their lives, about 48 percent of all pedestrian fatalities. What Are Other Causes of Pedestrian Accidents? According to the Centers for Disease Control, speeding increases the likelihood of a pedestrian being struck by a car and the severity of injury after the accident. Most pedestrian deaths occur in unlit areas at night and are more likely to be…
