According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the number of motorcyclists who died in traffic accidents in the U.S. more than doubled between 1999 and 2008, including reaching an all-time high in 2008. Unfortunately, many of those deaths resulted not from mistakes by the motorcyclists but their fellow motorists. Sadly, our area was recently the site of a hit-and-run motorcycle wreck in which a 22-year-old Marine lost his life, according to KNSD. The accident happened in the 300 block of Douglas Drive at about 8 a.m. on a weekday and involved a Budget Rental box truck, in addition to the motorcycle. As both vehicles were heading north on Douglas Drive, the box truck began to make a U-turn in front of the motorcycle.
