How San Diego Is Making it Safer For Cyclists

Posted on July 3, 2018 by bonnicilawgroup

The City Council of San Diego voted on plans to make the city safer for cyclists. The City Council’s Environment Committee voted this past Thursday on a new implementation plan. This plan will amend the current Bike Master Plan, which was adopted in 2013. The 2013 Bike Master Plan is a strategic implementation plan that promotes bicycle safety, policy, and infrastructure. The new implementation, proposed to city council by the Bicycle Advisory Committee, will cost upwards of $300 million. The new master plan addresses more bicycle related needs such as bicycle roadways, education and other programs that help to improve the San Diego bicycle community overall. What The Plan Says The following objectives are some of the ways in which the Bicycle Advisory Committee proposed to improve the San Diego bicycle community: Increasing the mode of transit to bicycle in high transit-priority areas, such as downtown to 18 percent by…

Which Parts of the Bicycle Master Plan Does the City Think Need Work?

Posted on August 16, 2017 by bonnicilawgroup

There have been several proposals from San Diego bicycling advocates looking to make the city friendlier to cyclists. Many of them have received praise from city representatives, but not all of them. Officials have agreed with 25 of the 32 proposals in the plan, which originated with the Bicycle Advisory Committee. Some will take longer than hoped for, however, and others might need some work. Of the seven proposals that the city did not agree with, only one was labeled a bad idea. That idea was to revisit the 2013 bicycle master plan and update it using information from a 2015 climate action plan. The other six were criticized due to budget constraints, lack of staff and other feasibility issues. Proponents vs. Opponents of New Bike Proposals While there have been many opponents of the bike plan who say that spending taxpayer money on little-used bike lanes and narrowing of…

Bike Across the Bay? SANDAG Considers Building Cycling Path on Coronado Bridge

Posted on April 10, 2017 by bonnicilawgroup

As it currently stands, there is only one day per year that cyclists are allowed to bike the Coronado Bay Bridge. There are a couple days where pedestrians are allowed to walk it. But all of that might change soon, thanks to a plan in its very early stages. SANDAG is considering constructing a tunnel on the bridge that would span all the way from San Diego to Coronado, perhaps attached to the side of the bridge or maybe underneath it. This tunnel would allow pedestrians and cyclists to bike across the San Diego bay. At the midpoint of this tunnel, there would be an observation platform, allowing pedestrians and cyclists an unparalleled view of the bay and coast. Cyclists interviewed about the proposal spoke fondly of it, noting that it could alleviate traffic by letting navy base employees cycle to work and Coronado natives cycle to San Diego. Not…

      What our clients are saying

“I had a great experience. I was out from work on disability for almost a year after my accident. The process of battling the insurance companies would have been so overwhelming for me with doctor’s appointments and therapy. Josh streamlined the process and made everything so easy. I don’t think I could have handled this on my own.”
