While many things can pull a driver’s attention away from the road, there is no debate that cell phones and other digital devices are amongst the most dangerous. Recently, awareness of the dangers of texting while driving has increased significantly.
According to California transportation safety officials, deaths from distracted drivers have doubled since a decade ago. While drivers need to limit—or eliminate—all forms of distraction, texting and cell phones are a great start.
“Yelling at the kids in the backseat, dropping something, eating, putting on makeup, has been around forever,” California Office of Transportation spokesman Chris Cochran said to ABC News. “But what has really changed just in the last five to 10 years is the use of mobile devices.”
