San Diego Wrongful Death Lawyer Reflects on Paparazzi Fatality

A photographer attempting to capture pictures of teen sensation Justin Bieber was killed when he was struck by a car as he was crossing a street in Los Angeles on January 1. The photographer was taking pictures of Bieber’s white Ferrari, but Justin was not in the vehicle at the time. The photographer was identified as a 29-year-old man.

This incident reminded some people of Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997 as a result of aggressive paparazzi causing a high-speed car accident.

“Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves,” Bieber said in a released statement.

Do you think legislators should pass laws cracking down on aggressive paparazzi? Or are their practices covered under the first amendment because celebrities are public figures?
