What are Signs I’m Starting Too Fast on Bike Climbs?

Posted on January 30, 2017 by bonnicilawgroup

Often, the biggest mistake we make on bike climbs is a result of feeling great. Our legs are feeling fresh, and we feel invincible. This leads us to go too hard too fast. We are at the bottom of a significant climb and, because we’re too fired up, we’re hammering away at our pedals at a pace that is not sustainable.  How do you know you’re starting too fast, though? Signs You’re Starting Too Fast You’re generating more lactic acid than you can use – Your muscles are beginning to ache, burn, and cramp. This painful experience comes from lactic acid buildup in your bloodstream, and it’s caused by using up oxygen faster than you can replenish it. Your body is telling you to slow down and pace yourself. If you don’t listen, your symptoms will only get worse. You can’t speak in short phrases – When you’re on a…

We’ve all been there; unsure of whether we’re breaking some California bicycle law when we ride a bike while wearing headphones. The short answer is yes. In the state of California, it is illegal to wear headphones that either cover or are put inside both ears, according to vehicle code 27400. This applies to both motorists and cyclists. Why Is It Illegal to Wear Headphones While Riding a Bike? The main reason wearing headphones is illegal when cycling is simply because it’s dangerous…but isn’t riding a bike inherently dangerous anyway? Well, yes, the same way driving a car or walking down the sidewalk is dangerous, but wearing headphones adds more complexity to…

Posted on June 13, 2016 by bonnicilawgroup

Riding through traffic around cars can be scary, but it’s fairly straightforward; just obey the same rules of the road that you would if you were driving. What about when you’re riding a bike around pedestrians? Are the rules different then? What can you do to keep yourself and the foot traffic around you safe? How to Ride a Bike Around Pedestrians There are a variety of different circumstances in which you may have to ride through foot traffic. We’ve summarized some bike safety tips about what you should do in each of the following common situations. Pedestrian Crossing – When people on foot cross the road, they can cause the same sort of problems as a driver crossing an intersection. Sometimes they don’t look hard enough and fail to see you, the cyclist, barreling towards them. If the person walking is legally allowed to cross, like when signaled at…

      What our clients are saying

“I had a great experience. I was out from work on disability for almost a year after my accident. The process of battling the insurance companies would have been so overwhelming for me with doctor’s appointments and therapy. Josh streamlined the process and made everything so easy. I don’t think I could have handled this on my own.”
