      San Diego Woman Killed in Motorcycle Accident

      Irvine resident Julie Faith Fortier, 39, died in a motorcycle accident, according to CBS 8 News in San Diego. Fortier was riding on the back of her husband’s motorcycle on Highway 78 just east of Julian at the time of the crash. According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), another motorcycle swiped into Fortier’s husband’s bike. The accident occurred on a curve in the highway along the Banner Grade when Fortier’s husband’s bike crossed over the center line. The other rider suffered injuries. According to a study from the University of Southern California, 50 percent of all fatal motorcycle accidents involved another vehicle. Seventy-eight percent of the motorcycles involved were struck from the front, and only 5 percent were struck from behind.       Motorcyclist Slides under Tractor Trailer in San Diego

      A San Diego motorcyclist slid underneath a tractor-trailer on May 15, according to UTSanDiego.com. The motorcyclist’s identity was not released, but San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros described him as a 30-year-old male. The motorcycle accident occurred at 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of Paseo de las Americas and Airway Road. The motorcyclist suffered leg and arm injuries and is expected to recover. According to police reports, the motorcyclist was traveling recklessly at high speeds prior to the accident and was unable to stop for the truck. The motorcyclist was cited. The truck driver was uninjured. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) there were 380,000 truck accidents in the United States in 2008 alone. 71 percent of those killed in these accidents were occupants of other vehicles.       One Killed, One Injured in Motorcycle Collision

      A motorcyclist died on May 29 on Angels Crest Highway, according to the Pasadena Star-News. Two riders were involved in the motorcycle accident, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The CHP identified the deceased as 30-year-old Junior Esturado Quic-Ortiz of Hawthorne. He was pronounced dead at the scene where the two motorcycles collided. 45-year-old Patrick Ramirez of San Dimas was the other rider injured. Quic-Ortiz appeared to have lost control of his motorcycle and collided with Ramirez, according to CHP Officer Jose Garcia. Ramirez was treated at a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Officer Garcia said he was not sure what caused Quic-Ortiz to lose control and the accident remains under investigation. May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. The CHP is working in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to raise awareness of the dangers associated with riding. Motorcycle helmets…
