Teenage Girl Killed In Accident On I-5

A 14-year-old girl is dead after a tragic car accident on I-5 on November 27, according to sources. The Ford Expedition in which the young girl was a passenger flipped into a ditch off the side of the highway. The driver of the Ford Expedition was 33-year-old Bernice Butterfield, according to California Highway Patrol officer Jared Blankenship.

The accident occurred as the driver was attempting to merge into the right lane without noticing a vehicle in her blind spot. The driver lost control and swerved off the highway. The driver and four other passengers were taken to the hospital, and the young girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

“All occupants were properly restrained, which prevented them from sustaining more serious injuries; however, the nature of the collision and the severe extent of damage to the rear of the vehicle caused fatal injuries to the passenger,” the CHP released in a statement.
