A contingency fee means that if we obtain money for you, either via settlement or verdict, we deduct attorney fees and legal costs from the recovery and give you the rest. The percentage may vary depending on the risk involved in the case, which will be part of the contract. If we fail to reach a settlement or verdict in your favor, you do not owe us anything.

The Link between Substance Abuse and TBI

Posted on June 11, 2012 by bonnicilawgroup

A recent study from The Ohio State University Medical Center reveals that victims of a traumatic brain injury often had substance abuse problems prior to injury. The study indicates that adolescents and adults treated for a TBI are heavier drinkers than those who do not suffer a TBI. Some of the other studies indicated that the 2-5 years after a person suffers a TBI, the drinking becomes worse. According to the medical journal, between 10 and 20 percent of persons with a traumatic brain injury and a substance abuse problem developed the substance abuse problem only after suffering the TBI. Approximately 20 percent of persons hospitalized for a TBI and 30 percent of those requiring rehabilitation were intoxicated at the time of their injury. “Substance abuse is a risk factor for having a traumatic brain injury and having a traumatic brain injury is a risk factor for developing a substance…

How Long Are Those White Dashes on the Highway? Slow Down!

Posted on June 8, 2012 by bonnicilawgroup

A recent study indicates that many drivers greatly underestimate how long white dashed lines in between lanes on the interstate actually are. Study leader Doug Shaffer and his colleagues at The Ohio State University conducted three experiments with over 400 college students, according to UPI.com. When researchers asked the participants to guess how long the lines were, they answered 2 feet. The actual length of the lines is 10 feet, which is a federal guideline, and the underestimation indicates the participants are driving too fast. The lines are placed 30 feet apart and used to separate traffic lanes or indicate passing is legal around a center line. “We were surprised, first, that people’s estimate were so far off, and second, that there was so little variability,” Shaffer said. Since the lines are 10 feet long and 30 feet apart, each time you pass one your car has traveled 40 feet….

California Leads the US in Dog Bites

Posted on June 4, 2012 by bonnicilawgroup

New statistics show that California leads the nation in insurance claims for dog bites, according to the Huffington Post. State Farm Insurance alone paid out over $109 million for 3,800 dog bite claims in California in 2011, said spokesman Eddie Martinez. In 2010, State Farm paid out $90 million for 3,500 claims in the state. Attacks and claims increased 31 percent in 2011 in California. All insurance companies paid $479 million for dog bite claims in the state in 2011, according to the Insurance Information Institute. “Most dog bites occur actually among a family pet or a known dog,” says ER Dr. Alan Nager. “It’s fairly rare to be bit by a stray dog.” Many people believe dog owners are only liable for injuries caused by a dog if the dog bit someone else in the past; however, this “one free bite” is not the law in California. Owners are…

      What our clients are saying

“I had a great experience. I was out from work on disability for almost a year after my accident. The process of battling the insurance companies would have been so overwhelming for me with doctor’s appointments and therapy. Josh streamlined the process and made everything so easy. I don’t think I could have handled this on my own.”
