Woman Killed in Linda Vista Hit-and-Run Accident

A 40-year-old woman was the victim of a hit-and-run accident in Linda Vista on August 29 that left her with serious injuries, according to CBS 8 in San Diego. The woman had to be taken to a local trauma center by paramedics for further treatment. Her injuries are serious but not life threatening, according to the police. The accident occurred around 8 p.m. on the 7200 block of Linda Vista Road. The woman was walking along the east sidewalk of the road when she was struck. “She was hit by a light-colored pickup truck that went up on the sidewalk after making a U-turn in the roadway,” said San Diego police Sgt. Authorities Increase San Diego DUI Checkpoints for Labor Day

KEYT ABC 3 in Santa Barbara is reporting that California police have increased DUI checkpoints for the Labor Day weekend in an effort to keep drunk drivers off the roads. Drunk driving can become an issue around the holidays as families and friends come together to celebrate, celebrations that many times include alcohol. Even in the days and weeks leading up to a holiday, drunk driving sometimes ramps up. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) set up DUI checkpoints in the San Diego and Santa Barbara areas on August 22, over a week before Labor Day, and made multiple arrests. Linda Vista Car Accident Leaves One Dead

David Benito died two weeks ago when a drunk driver ran a red light and collided with his vehicle. 41-year-old Matthew Tyler Kim was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in Linda Vista after a field sobriety test. Benito was riding with his 19-year-old brother, who was treated at Sharp Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Benito and his brother were blocks away from their house when the accident occurred. They were returning from a visit to Mexico. Preliminary evidence suggests the suspect ran a red light. Kim was booked in San Diego Central Jail and is being held without bail until his arraignment. The accident remains under investigation.
