A bus driver died in an accident after his bus was struck by a car on December 13, according to NBC News in San Diego. The bus accident occurred on Interstate 805 in San Diego near El Cajon Boulevard. The school bus driver, John Firedsas Joaquin Jr., 32, was on the side of the road attempting to repair his broken down bus. A 2005 Nissan Altima struck the rear of the bus after losing control and veering off the road. Joaquin was working in front of the bus and became stuck in the engine compartment following the collision. He was trapped for more than 30 minutes before rescuers were able to free him. The driver of the sedan, identified as a 41-year-old female, was taken to the hospital and listed in serious condition.
