San Diego Wrongful Death Attorney Looks at Lawsuit Filed Against County Following Car Accident

The mother of a 23-year-old woman killed in a car accident in Escondido on June 18, 2012 has filed a wrongful death claim against San Diego County. Kara Laxson lost her daughter when a car she was riding in with a friend ran off the road and into a swimming pool in the back yard of a private residence. Laxson claims the county was aware of the hazards of the road and the pool and failed to correct it or even warn drivers. “It’s a dangerous road, and with my daughter losing her life on it, I don’t want any other family to have to deal with that again,” said Laxson. We weighed in on this incident after it occurred in June. San Diego Accident Attorney Applauds Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition for Protecting Cyclists and Pedestrians

The Sebastopol City Council in Sonoma County, California will be voting on an ordinance to protect pedestrians and cyclists from threatening motorists who intentionally harass them, according to PressDemocract.com. The hearing, held on December 18, informed the council of the proposed legislation and why it is necessary to protect cyclists and pedestrians. After several highly-publicized fatal pedestrian accidents and bicycle accidents this summer, the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition urged legislators to take action to prevent future incidents. San Diego Wrongful Death Attorney Weighs in on NTSB Investigation of Amtrak Accident

Investigators have determined that faulty brakes are to blame for a fatal truck accident involving an Amtrak passenger train killing six in Nevada in June 2011. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) concluded its investigation on December 11. The accident occurred when the truck collided with the Amtrak train at a railroad crossing. The NTSB investigation determined that the gate was working properly as well as the lights, and the driver was possibly fatigued. Faulty brakes were the main contributing factor in the accident. The driver, Larry Valli, 43 was killed as well as the train’s conductor and four of its passengers. The truck was traveling at 77 mph when the driver applied the brakes. “This accident could have been prevented if the driver had acted appropriately or the motor carrier [John Davis Trucking] had acted responsibly in maintaining the vehicle,” says NTSB chairwoman Deborah Hersman.
