Driver Survives Fall from Freeway Onramp

Police have arrested a hit and run driver for colliding with a yellow truck and forcing it off the freeway. The driver was seriously injured after the truck fell more than 50 feet into a nearby parking lot. On Sunday, September 21, a Navy mechanic drove his Ford truck onto a westbound ramp to northbound Interstate 805. Witnesses say a brown 2000 Ford Excursion pulled up next to the truck and through some mishap, the two collided. The crash forced the mechanic’s truck to break through a guardrail and fall off the ramp. The truck hit a nearby Dave & Buster’s building and came to a rest in a Mission Valley parking lot. The Excursion fled the scene. The truck fell about 50 feet from the freeway. The driver survived the crash, but had to be rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. He is currently recovering from back surgery…

No Charges Filed After British Olympian Dies in Boating Accident

After a thorough investigation, police have decided not to file criminal charges after an America’s Cup catamaran capsized in May 2013, killing British Olympic star Andrew “Bart” Simpson. America’s Cup is an international yachting trophy that is awarded to the winner of a two-yacht race. Yacht clubs have to meet certain requirements to qualify, but once they do, any yacht club can challenge the cup’s current owner. On May 9, the 72-foot Artemis capsized when the port side hull “dug into the water and failed structurally.” Simpson, a gold and silver Olympic medalist, sustained serious head and neck injuries and drowned after being submerged for about 10 minutes, according to the autopsy report. Some critics associated with sailing’s marquee regatta believed that the boat’s craftsmanship, rather than the pilot’s actions, caused it to crash. On Tuesday, September 9, a police report confirmed that the accident was caused by a structural…

If police find him, the driver could face charges of reckless driving causing injury, vehicular manslaughter and second-degree murder. On Sunday, September 14, witnesses report that a silver Corvette and a black Mercedes were racing westbound on Sea World Drive when the Corvette lost control and slammed into a tree. The passenger was rushed to a local hospital with injuries, but the driver died at the scene. The victim has not been identified. The Mercedes never made contact with the Corvette, but the police are counting the accident as a hit and run, because the driver fled the scene. Racing on a public street is always extremely dangerous. If drivers are caught, they can face charges of speeding, reckless driving, engaging in a speed competition and other…
