Have a Fun—And Safe—Memorial Day!

Today is Memorial Day—the unofficial beginning of summer for most Americans. We hope you and your loved ones are out enjoying the national holiday safely. With that being said, the California Highway Patrol is out in full force today ensuring that the festivities are as safe as possible. CHP officers will be targeting drunk drivers, boaters and motorcyclists today and throughout the summer.

“Operating a motorcycle or driving a vehicle while impaired can have deadly consequences,” CHP Lieutenant Greg Baarts told the Lake County News.

In addition to refraining from drinking and driving, officials are also reiterating the importance for all motorists to stay focused behind the wheel this summer. The winding and scenic roadways in Southern California provide beautiful scenery, but they can be deadly for distracted drivers.

“I am hoping the enhanced enforcement efforts directed towards ensuring motorcycle safety and removing impaired drivers from our roadways will help reduce the number of injuries during Memorial Day Weekend,” said Captain Jim Epperson.
