Motorcyclist Killed by Distracted Driver

Two people were seriously injured, one fatally, after a motorcycle broadsided a Ford Taurus near Vista.

According to reports, the Yamaha R1 was traveling south on East Vista Way when a sedan tried to merge left from Hutchison Street. The driver turned directly into the path of the motorcycle, giving the rider no time to avoid the collision.

The 49-year-old motorcyclist slammed into the side of the car and died in the crash. The Taurus driver was a 34-year-old man from Oceanside. He was hospitalized for serious leg injuries.

The victim’s landlady and her 8-year-old son came upon the crash moments after it happened and gave details to the police. A trauma intervention counselor was called in to help them cope with witnessing the tragedy.

Drivers do not have to be under the influence to injure or kill someone. Distracted drivers are one of the biggest threats to motorcyclists on the road, and failure to see a motorcyclist often ends in serious injury or even death.
