One Killed, Car Split in Half in Oceanside Car Accident

According to NBC 7 in San Diego, a November 13 car accident left one person dead, three others injured and a car split in half. The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of Oceanside Boulevard near the Avenida Del Oro intersection, according to U-T San Diego.

“An Acura Integra was headed eastbound on Oceanside Boulevard when the car veered into the center concrete median and struck the tree,” police Sgt. Gabe Jimenez told U-T San Diego.

The force of the collision with the tree split the Acura in two and ejected the vehicle’s lone passenger, a woman, into the westbound lanes of Oceanside Boulevard. After splitting in two, half of the Acura made its way back onto Oceanside Boulevard where it collided with a westbound Nissan Sentra.

The woman who was ejected from the Acura died at the scene. The driver of the Acura, a man in his 20s, was also ejected from the vehicle. He reportedly suffered serious injuries and had to be flown by medical helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. The two occupants of the Nissan Sentra, a man and woman, both suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The cause of the accident was still under investigation at the time of this report. Police believe that speed may have played a factor in the wreck and are attempting to determine if the driver of the Acura was under the influence.

“The driver [of the Acura] is looking at possible vehicular manslaughter charges, depending on the outcome of our investigation,” Sgt. Jimenez told NBC 7.
