One Killed in Minor League Baseball Firework Accident

A Pacific Beach man was killed on September 2 in a tragic fireworks accident at a minor league baseball game, according to Fox News 5 in San Diego. William Calabrese, 20, was killed in the accident at Diamond Stadium, home of the Lake Elsinore Storm baseball team. Calabrese was working part-time for Fireworks America.

“He was a great kid. A former Eagle Scout who built a lot of things here in San Diego including a prayer garden in Pacific Beach where he’s from,” said friend Corey McClelland. “This guy got us all involved in life. He was a giver that never stopped helping people he didn’t know.”

Calabrese suffered severe burns following what has been described as an explosion. The incident remains under investigation.

“This tragic accident has left the Storm community devastated and shaken by this loss,” lead a statement released by the Lake Elsinore Storm. “We feel the emptiness and offer Will’s family and friends our compassion and sympathy.”
