Thirteen Injured in School Bus Accident

Thirteen children were injured in a school bus accident in Victorville, California on October 11, according to the Los Angeles Times. The school bus rolled over after nearly colliding with a U-Haul truck that was backing out of a driveway, according to reports.

A total of 40 children were on the bus at the time of the accident, according to San Bernardino County Fire Department spokeswoman Tracey Martinez. The bus driver was also injured, and 11 of the students were hospitalized with various non-life threatening injuries.

“A U-Haul truck being driven by Jenny Lynn Cordovam 48, of Victorville, was backing from a private driveway,” said California Highway Patrol Officer Joaquin Zubieta. “Cordova failed to see the school bus approaching and entered the [roadway] directly into the path of the school bus.”

Drivers of U-Haul truck normally do not have experience driving larger vehicles and are only using them temporarily. That may have been the case here. It is fortunate no lives were lost and the injuries were not more severe.
