California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers are searching for a group of young motorists that caused a disturbance and shut down four northbound lanes of the Nimitz Freeway in Oakland, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Reports state that the motorists were performing “doughnuts” in their cars and burning the rubber off their tires, creating a large cloud of smoke. Several witnesses recorded the disturbance using cell phone cameras. “In my 35 years in the department, I’ve never seen anything like this,” said CHP Sgt. Diana McDermott. “It looks like something you would see in a video game or something, but these are real-life incidents, and it takes seconds—seconds—for a fatal collision to happen.” The group dispersed when officers arrived and no arrests have been made.
