Mom and Three Kids Injured When Minivan and Bus Collide

An October 14 accident between a minivan and a bus left a mother and her three children seriously injured, according to NBC 7 in San Diego. The accident happened at about 9:30 a.m. in Chula Vista, California at the intersection of East Palomar Street and La Media Road. Fox 5 in San Diego reported that the impact of the crash caused the Mazda MPV minivan to rollover.

The rollover ended with the van off the roadway on its side. Inside the van was a mother and her three children—ages 1, 4 and 11. They had to be removed from the van by the dozen or so first responders who had rushed to the accident site. The mother and all three children sustained serious injuries in the wreck and were each taken to local hospitals for treatment. As of this report, the children were in stable condition. The mother’s condition was not included in the report.

As for the other vehicle involved in the crash, one person aboard the bus was reported to have suffered minor injuries and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. No one else riding the bus was reported to have suffered any injuries.

The bus was a City Link special needs bus transporting elderly, disabled passengers around the Southwestern College area. According to investigators, the bus had significant damage to the front of its driver’s side because of the collision. The cause of the wreck was still under investigation at the time of this report.

Due to its size, a bus tends to take longer to stop and maneuver, limiting the bus driver’s ability to react to changing road conditions as quickly as those driving smaller vehicles. As a result, the damage and injuries associated with bus accidents are often more severe than those from car accidents.
