California is one of the most dangerous states in the country in terms of pedestrian accidents. According to R. Michael Bomberger, columnist for Avvo.com, there are over 60,000 pedestrian accidents in the United States each year. Five thousand people die in these accidents annually. The most common type of pedestrian accident is when someone is crossing a road. The front end of the car typically strikes the pedestrian. The most vulnerable pedestrians include the elderly, small children, cyclists, skateboarders and people in a wheelchair or pushing a stroller.
