A woman was recently hospitalized with severe injuries after being struck by a car. The pedestrian accident occurred around 10 p.m. in a poorly lit area near Plaza Bonita Mall in National City. When it comes to pedestrian accidents, many would think that drugs, alcohol or speeding would be involved. However, perhaps somewhat of a surprise is that police suspect none of those were factors. Investigators attribute the accident primarily to “wrong place, wrong time.” The stretch of road where the woman was hit comes at the end of a curve with dim lighting and a speed increase from 35 mph to 45 mph. The driver remained at the scene, and was reportedly very cooperative with police. He was not injured, and as far as we know, has not been charged with any crime.
