Three Killed, Three Injured after SUV Plunges off Freeway

Three people died and three others were injured in a terrifying accident in Los Angeles when an SUV flew off the side of the highway, according to the Los Angeles Times. The SUV reportedly flew off the side of the eastbound 134 Freeway in Eagle Rock and landed on the street below. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the 2000’s model Ford Explorer was traveling at high speeds when it drifted off the side of the road. Five passengers were trapped inside the vehicle when it came to rest. A 6-year-old girl flew from the vehicle, landed on the freeway and was rushed to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. One man, one woman and an 11-year-old girl were pronounced dead on the scene. 7-Year-Old Boy Killed in Tragic Boating Accident

A 7-year-old San Diego boy who died in a tragic boating accident is identified as young Sebastien Felix of Bonita, according to CBS News 8. The boy fell off the boat as it docked near National City after a fishing expedition with the boy’s father, uncle and a family friend. The boat operator was docking near the mouth of the Sweetwater River when the boy fell over and was struck by the boat’s propeller.  One of the men jumped in and rescued young Felix, who was rushed to Rady Children’s Hospital where he died from his injuries. No alcohol was involved in the accident, and no charges are expected to be filed. “We don’t know if he was trying to jump off to help his dad dock the boat or if he fell,” said Marguerite Elicone, spokeswoman for the Port of San Diego. “It was just an unfortunate accident.” It…

Are Pit Bull Bans a Viable Option for San Diego?

There has been a disturbing trend of pit bull attacks in San Diego area apartment complexes over the last several weeks. The latest reported incident occurred on August 2, when two pit bull mixes attacked a 30-year-old pregnant woman in a fenced-in area of the complex. A 7-year-old boy had released the dogs to go to the bathroom. The woman fortunately only sustained one minor bite wound and was treated at a nearby hospital. “One of the 3-year-old dogs ran at her and knocked her flat on her stomach, and bit her right hand,” said San Diego Police Officer Scott Brengi. “She was screaming, her husband came out and got her inside, and the owner got control of the dogs.” This attack, along with other similar incidents, has raised the debate over whether pit bull breeds should be banned, especially in urban areas.
