One Killed in Minor League Baseball Firework Accident

A Pacific Beach man was killed on September 2 in a tragic fireworks accident at a minor league baseball game, according to Fox News 5 in San Diego. William Calabrese, 20, was killed in the accident at Diamond Stadium, home of the Lake Elsinore Storm baseball team. Calabrese was working part-time for Fireworks America. “He was a great kid. A former Eagle Scout who built a lot of things here in San Diego including a prayer garden in Pacific Beach where he’s from,” said friend Corey McClelland. “This guy got us all involved in life. He was a giver that never stopped helping people he didn’t know.” Calabrese suffered severe burns following what has been described as an explosion. Metro Bus Drivers Possibly Intoxicated with Marijuana; Pull Over

San Diego police are investigating allegations that three Metropolitan Transit System bus drivers were under the influence of marijuana-laced brownies while they were on the job, according to NBC News. Rob Schupp, spokesman for the Metropolitan Transit System, said that three drivers reported feeling sick and dizzy after eating brownies handed out by another employee. Once the drivers realized they were “ill,” all three of them pulled over and replacement drivers were called in. The drivers were administered drug tests, the results are pending. The drivers and the employee were all placed on paid leave pending the results of the investigation. These drivers should be commended for their awareness and reacting quickly to get off the road, possibly saving lives. Two Women Killed trying to Assist Car Accident Victims

Two female Good Samaritans died after attempting to rescue others from a traffic accident on August 22, according to the Los Angeles Times. Irma Zamora had jumped out of the car to assist the victims, despite her husband’s warning her to wait in the car as he called 911. Zamora rushed to assist the driver of an SUV who was trapped in his car after striking a fire hydrant and a power pole. Zamora and the other witness trying to assist stepped into a puddle on a front lawn that came into contact with a live wire. “I saw a lady come out of nowhere,” Christie Vergini, another witness, told reporters at Fox News in Los Angeles. “She walked, stepped in the water, fell back on her back with her arms straight out.” The other victim was a woman who lived near the scene of the accident.
