New Study Reveals Stats On Teen Car Accidents

A nationwide study of teenage drivers has produced some interesting results.  States have made stricter laws and regulations for teenagers who are in the process of getting their driver’s license, whether its requiring more classroom time, more driving time with an instructor or putting limits on the hours young teens can drive from or how many passengers they are allowed to have in the car. Initially the states were seeing a decrease in the number of fatalities of teenagers involved in a car accident.  They initially decreased in the mid 90’s by as much as 30% in some states, according to The New York Times.  However, if you take a step back, the stats can be a little misleading. “Most of the prior studies on graduated driver licensing have only looked at 16-year-olds,” said Scott Masten of the California Department of Motor Vehicles, the lead author on the study.  “When…

Officer Strikes Pedestrian With Police Cruiser

According to The San Jose Mercury, a 25-year-old man was injured in a pedestrian accident on September 12. The car accident occurred in Los Gatos. A police officer was responding to a call and struck a pedestrian en route, sending him to the hospital with major injuries. The officer who was driving was Leo Coddingham, but officials do not believe he was doing anything wrong and describe the incident as an accident. “There is no indication that the officer did anything wrong,” says Police Sgt. Kerry Harris. “This is an outstanding officer with a clean driving record. This appears to be an accident.” The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident. The man who was struck was the same person the officer was responding too, but was not lying in the street as originally reported, but was walking. It is the responsibility of both motorists and pedestrians to share the roadway. Two Dead, One Injured Labor Day Weekend At Lake Havasu

According to The Sacramento Bee, two people were killed and one was injured in a boating accident and a drowning on Lake Havasu over Labor Day Weekend.  The two deaths and one injury on Havasu—on the Arizona-Southern California border—were separate incidents. The names of the victims were not made available immediately.  According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office, a 30-year-old woman was killed and a 27-year-old man was injured after they were hit by a boat while they were swimming. The separate drowning victim was identified as 28-year-old Joshua Lafolette, who drowned after jumping from a rock. Detective Jimmy Trahan said that the operator of the boat that hit the swimmers was backing up in shallow water and hit the victims with the boat’s propeller. When people are out celebrating a holiday weekend on the water, it is especially important to use extra care.  These are tragic deaths and…
