FDA Probes Facility after Meningitis Outbreak

Medication shipped by the New England Compounding Center (NECC) recently was contaminated with fungus, causing a fungal meningitis outbreak causing 31 deaths in 17 states. In October, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigated the conditions at NECC following reports from the Massachusetts Department of Health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported more than 400 cases of meningitis linked to the medication, which was an injectable steroid painkiller. Many of the patients using the drug suffered from back pain and other types of joint pain. The FDA and Massachusetts Department of Health have both reported unsanitary conditions at the NECC facility that may have contributed to the contamination. Federal investigators are looking into other medicines produced by the company to see if they may be contaminated as well. NECC has a responsibility to the public to keep its facility sanitary to prevent outbreaks like this. For…

Man Severely Injured After Truck Collision

Four people were injured in a truck accident in San Diego on November 3, according to NBC News. A tanker truck collided with multiple vehicles on Interstate 15 in Escondido. According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, traffic on the interstate began to slow down due to a backed-up off ramp. The truck driver—identified as a 47-year-old Escondido resident—reported seeing the traffic slow but was unable to stop the truck in time. The driver applied the brakes but was not able to avoid collision. The truck rear-ended a Chevrolet Malibu, which became wedged beneath the tanker truck. The truck proceeded to strike two more vehicles before coming to a rest. The sedan caught on fire, and the Escondido Fire Department had to extinguish the flames before pulling the driver out of the car. He was transported to the University of California-San Diego Medical Center with very serious injuries. A…

NBC News near Rochester, New York looked into the issue of smaller breeds and aggressiveness. Parents and people in general are not as concerned with smaller breeds of dogs and may not have their guard up around them like they would with larger breeds. NBC News 10 reported on a smaller dog that attacked a young child. “We were walking down the street because we were doing jump rope for the heart for my 8-year-old,” said Samantha Bohrer, the mother of a 4-year old attacked by the small dog….
